Why Create Folders in Google Drive?

Before we dive in, why should you even bother creating folders?

Sounds good, right? Let's get started!

Step 1: Open Google Drive

First thing’s first. You need to go to Google Drive. You’ll need to log in with your Google account.

Already logged in? Great! If not, sign in and we’ll keep going.

Step 2: Click the “New” Button

Once you're in Google Drive, look to the left-hand side of your screen. There’s a colorful button that says + New.

Still with me? Perfect! Next, let’s make some magic.

Step 3: Select “Folder”

When that menu pops out, you’ll see a few options:

Click “Folder” on that list. It’s usually the first option.

A little window will appear, asking you to name your new folder. Ooooh, exciting!

Step 4: Name Your Folder

In the pop-up window, there’s a box where you can type your folder name.

Here are some fun folder name ideas:

Type your folder name, then click the blue Create button.

Ta-da! You just made a folder! 🎉

Step 5: Find Your Folder

After you create the folder, it should show up in your file list immediately.

The list is sorted by most recent, so your new folder should be right at the top.

Don’t see it? No worries. Try clicking My Drive on the left menu. It’s probably in there.

Step 6: Open Your Folder

To go into the folder, just double-click it. Easy, right?

Now you’re inside. It’s empty for now, but not for long.

Let’s add something!

Step 7: Add Files or Create Docs Inside

Inside the folder, click that same + New button.

You’ll see the same options like before:

Anything you create now will live inside this folder. Just like a digital file cabinet!

Step 8: Rename the Folder (If You Change Your Mind)

Oops—named your folder “Stuff” and now regret it?

No problem. To rename it:

Just like that, you’ve got a shiny new name.

Step 9: Move Folders Around

Want to move your folder inside another one? Maybe tidy up a bit?

Your files stay safe, and your Drive stays clean!

One of the best things about Google Drive is sharing.

You can give others permission to view, comment, or edit files.
